I'm looking into setting up a shade tent with inflatable furniture. I don't know the full details yet, but I'll be posting more here after I have my ticket and can confirm 100% that I will be able to get into Burning man(I'll be buying on the holiday sale if possible, so that means I'll have a good eight months of time to finish planning a tent and some inflatables) Anyone who can think of some great ideas for how to make the camp lounge more comfortable, let me know.
I'm also looking into Swamp coolers, but they may prove too adventurous for my first time out.

This is why I'm here. And yeah man, swamp coolers, LOTS of swamp coolers. We could be an igloo.

My biggest concern about inflatables is weight limit, I'm not buying anything with less than a 400lbs weight limit, as I'm just under that.

I was in Phoenix a few years ago and saw that they had misters along the streets downtown and thought that might be a good thing to help keep cool. Did some very brief searching and found this guy who built a personal mister system. Outdoor Misting SystemI think finding a unit that would be efficient enough for community use could be a problem but if there were even one or two small units for a couch or chair....that could be cool. Thoughts...?

I want to bring a few hammocks!
My only concern with inflatables is that someones outfit could snag somewhere on it and rip a hole and ruin the whole thing...

That's why if I go this route, I'm considering them one-use items. Looking into alternatives as well. Hammocks are great, but hanging them without trees can be tricky.

Dirveon, What type of shade structure will it be? How big will it be?

No idea. As I don't know how I'm getting to the event yet, that's all up in the air.(possibly literally if I'm flying)

I have a portable hammock that comes with a stand. I can order a couple more of these to bring, it has come in handy for the beach so I would gladly bring a couple to use on the playa.

I'm a big fan of hammocks, unfortunately, I'm a "BIG" fan. So I might need to find a sturdy base for myself, and if I'm not driving I might need to give up my personal hammock dreams. It'll probably be about what I can fit with the travel space I'm going to have.

Hammocks was me, I'm at work and didn't log in. I also failed to read Guest name and typed it in as a subject...

Steve,
Totally understand. How about bean bag loungers? Are those allowed? I think they would be pretty comfortable and somewhat cooling out there in the desert.

I'm wary about taking bean bags as if they break they'll be EVERYWHERE. They also take up a good deal of space. Inflatable furniture however, if they break, can pack into a tight space. I am looking into building some Playatech furniture, as they are a good middle ground between good furniture and inflatable. It will depend however, on my final travel arrangements. www.playatech.com/index.php

Currently looking at something like this... If I use shorter metal rods, and connectors, I can make something very very similar that also folds up for travel. I'm planning on abusing local media credentials to get it onto the plane overweight if I'm forced to fly, and while it will be SMALLER than the example one, the idea is the same. Tarp on the top, shade cloth for walls. It also might be possible to ship some of this out to people who will be driving to allow us to take a bigger structure to BM. The best part is that something like this is exceptionally scalable, and we can make it larger as needed/possible.

Stefanie and I will be definitely driving as we have no one to ship our gear to. I live in Florida and she's in Michigan but since we're leaving from MI I'll be driving up to her with my gear. Perhaps you could ride along with us? The more, the merrier!
