When it comes to burning man art contributions, I have lots of ideas and most of them involve some sort of mutant vehicle. Since there hasn't been any discussion on the matter, I thought I would bring it up. I have a ton of experience with small engines. More specifically, antique cub cadet tractors. As I said I have lots of ideas and I thought I'd see what everyone thinks.
Idea 1 I live in one of the largest amish communities in the world. I thought I would represent and make a burning man buggy. It would essentially be an amish buggy, without a horse, powered by the workings of a cub garden tractor that I have. Of course it would burningmanified with lights and tunes.
Idea 2 I have an almost brand new oversized recliner. I thought it would be cool to be able to drive it around the playa. The outsides of the chair measure 53 inches and it easily can hold three people. Of course burningmanification will be needed.
Thoughts?

This is really far outside my area of expertise. I love the idea of a mutant vehicle, but unless you're going to want to haul it across the country, it'll need to be street legal, AND comfortable for driving across country. I've had idle dreams of re-furbished buses, but nothing concrete, and nothing actionable.
I'm a fan of the attempt, but remember that you could put in TONS of work, and not be approved once you get there.

Neat idea. I wouldn't mind donating some lights. What sort of amish-themed stuff could you do with it?

Not sure about amish themes but I envision an amish buggy covered in disco ball mirrors or a technicolor dreamcoat buggy. I have been doing a little thinking on some of the issues ppl have brought up. I have come to the conclusion that the chair would be easier and more useful. Even if its not approved by the DMV (department of mutant vehicles) then.....its still a chair to be used in camp and therefore totally worth hauling across the country.
Just wanted to check in real quik and say Happy New Year to all my future playa pals.

Yep, Happy New Year, hopefully we can get ticket info soon, and settle on who is going for sure.

If you're thinking about mounting the chair on a cub cadet tractor, the only way I could see it working is if you tow the chair. Personally I'd put it on top of a scooter or something that has the controls at arm height when you're sitting.

I'm thinking of using an electric wheelchair. The controls can easily be mounted on the chair. I was also thinking of some kind of solar charging system to store power for at night. I also have a 5500 watt generator that I can bring for general camp stuff. I agree, the cub tractors would be more useful on something bigger. Maybe year two. You have to start with what you know and I love cubs. But, I also love this chair so I think this could be a fun project. Much different from the projects I'm used to which are usually antique tractors or fixing worn out junk. lol.

Consider replacing the tires with something more suitable for the desert. Also, read through eplaya for information on electric wheelchairs in the desert, I recall seeing a thread somewhere.
