Hello everyone! I'm Clare and I will will be a "Birgin" this year! I live and work in Nashville, TN and because I have no official plans set up, do not yet know if I will be flying or driving to Black Rock City. Financially, I am set to make any sort of travel/equipment plans I need to... as long as I end up on the playa. I am a full-time visual artist (oil-painter) and am so excited about contributing to whatever group Im involved with in any way that I can. Unfortunately, I do not know of anyone planning to attend the burn around my area and am looking to connect with people here that I can get to know and hopefully make some plans with.
Please feel free to reach out to me at anytime- I included my website (which has my contact info) in my profile. Look forward to getting to know everyone!
Hi Clare! Welcome! My name is Stefanie, I am a fellow newbie from Michigan.....I will be driving from there...so if you need other people to potentially travel with maybe we could caravan.... Cant wait to meet you all out on the Playa!

Hey folks, names Benjamin B.E Bink, you can call me Ben. This is my first time going to Burning Man(Was 15mins late to get my ticket..what a shame but I WILL get my ticket) 5years ago I planned on going to BM for the first time but I got really sick, since then I have spent a lot of time recovering and am now to the point where BurningMan is possible. So, I plan on living this dream this year, days after my 25ths bday. Celebrating life and love on the playa!
I am interested in this type of camp, and would like to know more about what you are proposing. To me it sounds like you are talkin more of a village, everyone brings their necessary gear and we all share if need be. A radical self-reliant group that still has good folks who are like-minded(virgins) to fall back on if we need a hand, a shoulder or maybe even a group of people to carry use to the med tents.
The one thing I do not want, is to join an experienced camp and get shunned or laughed at because its my first time going to Burning Man. I love the no drama rule btw! The voting off the island if your a doucher is a good idea, just the knowledge of that rule should keep people playing nice.
I'll be the guy with the Free Hugs shirt telling people to drink more water.

That's the impression I got, but the Camp Art section is teeming with ideas. I think we're going to try to provide at least some kind of public service/art display. Good to have you on the site, I hope you get a ticket.

Hi everyone! I'm Joel, a guy trying to recall the sense of fun, hope and dreams that has trickled away these 56 years. I used to be a "longhaired hippie" from the 70's through the 90's. I have had the sense since that time that our mainstream (default) culture has some critical flaws but the majority of people never look behind the curtain.
“The illusion of freedom will continue as long as it's profitable to continue the illusion. At the point where the illusion becomes too expensive to maintain, they will just take down the scenery, they will pull back the curtains, they will move the tables and chairs out of the way and you will see the brick wall at the back of the theater.” -Zappa
My drug of choice was pot which I loved dearly. In hindsight I think I might have a better grasp of my dreams if I hadn't been smoking morning noon and night for so darn long. Oddly, alcohol is something I can still enjoy without it becoming central to my life.
I've done lots of different work but it was always about making or fixing things. I'm not quite MacGuyver but if there's any kind of problem I'll always be in the line to try and fix it.
For entertainment I can bring a few tin whistles and my marginal skills at mostly Irish trad music. I could also bring a few Gogol Bordello tunes for a more lively effect. Musically I like a huge variety of stuff except maybe opera and new age music. Two kinds of dancing that I especially like are international folk and contra. There has been a contra camp at previous burns so I'll be checking for that. Oh yeah, I spent about 12 years from 1980 listening to nothing but reggae and still love that stuff dearly. I could bring some of that too.
Anyways ask questions - I rarely bite! -Joel

Joel,
great to have you here! I love the idea of having some live music at the camp! I love music but I dabble too much to really pick up an instrument long term, though I'm really terrible at a ton of them!
Jollyman,
Great to see you to. I'm sending well wishes your way on the ticket hunt.
For anyone I haven't personally greeted,
it's been a busy week for me at the office, so forgive me. It looks like the others here are taking the camp on as their own, which is the entire idea. I could step away right now, and people would still be capable of running the camp. that's the kind of camp we're shooting for, one where any person can step up and do what they truly want to, without playing second fiddle to others. This is a camp where birgins have the opportunity to PARTICIPATE. I hope you're all ready to participate!

Hello everyone! I’m Elena and I’d love to join the camp and will be happy to contribute to it my positive spirit and in any other possible way! After more than 10 years of dreaming to experience Burning Man, I’m now closer than ever that my dream would finally come true I was born in Moscow, managed to escape from it six years ago and currently live and do my PhD in Information Systems in Germany (in a small beautiful city called Muenster . Currently I have a ticket to Burning Man and a US visa, plan to buy flight tickets soon and most probably I’ll arrive in New York 20.08.14. I’ll be new not only at Burning Man, but it’d also be my first trip to the US, I'll be travelling on my own, so it would be really cool if you could support me with some tips. As I’ll be travelling from Germany, I’m afraid I’ll not be able to bring a lot of extra equipment with me, but I’ll happily compensate it with things which I can buy upon arrival to the US I still do not know how I’ll get to the Burning Man site and was thinking to take the Burner Express Shuttle (http://www.burnerexpress.com/), although what I do not understand is how I can bring 40 litres of water (which, if I calculated it correct, should be brought by each Burner) and all the food, equipment etc. to this shuttle bus. Can maybe anyone help me here and explain how it technically might work? I would also be more than happy, if it is possible, to join someone of you to Burning Man, instead of taking the Burner Express Shuttle, from New York or some other location and split all the costs. What would you say? Sorry if this questions is wrong here, maybe you could send me then the links, where I should post this request? Look forward to your feedback and to meet you all in person in 180 days

Hey Elena, I'm Erik, congrats on getting out of Moscow! If you're flying, maybe you have a reason for not flying into Reno (the closest city to Burning Man), but you will have to get to Reno (or San Fransisco) if you plan on taking the Burner Express. Reno is a few thousand miles west of New York. Food, water, and camping equipment will all be transported. That is included in the price of the ticket. You get "2 large bags and 1 carry on", which should be plenty for food/water/shelter. While I'm not sure of the specific cost, I know you can pay extra to bring more bags, and even stop at a grocery store on the way to the burn. The Burner Express website has not been updated for 2014; they should have specific numbers. EDIT: Honestly though, you will get better info if you go here eplaya.burningman.com/viewforum.php?f=286

Elena, you can choose the Burner Express option with the grocery store stop. Then they have a separate bus for gear and the like. You buy extra tags for your gear and can bring more with you. Including bikes, though I doubt you'll have one with you.

Thank you so much for explanations! My plans are not fixed yet; I thought to first arrive in New York, as it's cheaper to get there from Germany than to any other US city and I've never been to New York before... What do you think, can I still stay at Birgin Camp if I take the burner express shuttle? – That would be amazing I would also like to try to find someone with a big car who I could join, I think it’s more fun then

The burner express is one of my options if I can't find a ride out there otherwise, or if I can't get as much time off work as I'd like.
